I tested this today and it works as expected with my scanner that I have available, a NADAMOO. Likely your scanner is missing a setting, or it is disabled, for an "auto-enter" for the "suffix". Terminology may vary between scanners. From the UG for my test scanner:
Q5. Is there any barcodes to remove auto-enter after every scanning?
Answer:
To remove the auto-enter, please read the code “disable suffix” on page 29.

Seth: I have tested this with multiple scanners and it works as expected. I can scan serial numbers only (by disabling MAC) without touching the keyboard. I can also scan serial number and MAC. The cursor automatically moves from one field to the next.

Can you set up the scanner to put a 'Tab' character at the end of scan? It worked for me
