Comment or Placeholder Items

Having an items that is not a product or labor, but is a comment or a placeholder would be really useful. When combing through bid documents its usefule to list out symbols first, then later backfill with actual product data. This is also useful in design build when you want to quickly list out the types of items you may need and then backfill later with specific items.

I don't believe this requires a unique feature.

I don't think you need a special feature for this. You can create a group of placeholder items in your catalog to cover typical product categories. Is there something else you can articulate about how this should work differently than defining a simple placeholder item? The Allowance feature in the catalog might work well for what you want to do. Allowances only require a name, have an option for a description, and you can add a budget as desired. What are we missing that would improve the experience for creating a bid?

Kevin Frye: Hi! Creating catalog items is not ideal for something that may only be used one time and is only specific to maybe one bid document. Sure, this could be done, but its not worth the time. If that is the case I would use another application to help note what I am looking at. When combing through bid documents it would be nice to quickly list out comments or items you see. For example when looking at a consultants line drawing you may see a network switch, matrix switcher, and a DSP. Being able to annotate; network switch, matrix switcher, and DSP quickly in D-Tools then once you get to the spec page and find the actual make and model then you could insert the actual product. Having comment or placeholder items would help increase the speed and efficiency when combing through bid documents. Thanks!
