Insert Drawing Pages Retains Component ID

When Inserting Drawing pages from a previous design that has been installed, the Component IDs are regenerated. The Comp IDs should retain the same labelling as the original inserted drawing. it is important to have the Comp IDs match the labels in the field and creates a lot of rework to match.

I have also experienced this issue. Using the Insert Drawing Pages feature I import drawings for an existing system that needs to be updated. Upon inserting pages, the component IDs are correct on products and wire. I then select all - lock project items. If the project is closed and reopened, all component IDs change to our new standard of component ID formats. I need the old standard to be retained and reflect labels installed in the field. You can see in the picture there is a single character difference on products, as well as bulk wire between our old and new standard. It would be great if the new standard was not forced on products unless its a new product being added. Every time the project is opened it regenerates the IDs if they do not match the new standard. Can we get a check box or similar to tell Dtools not to adjust component IDs unless a regeneration is desired?

I am intrigued as to the use case. When would this be necessary over cloning the original project, Mass Update everything from the original to Owner Furnished, and continuing on with the new project?

Dan Monti: Use case is when the old project we are inserting has a different comp ID settings that we used 5 years ago. The issue we are having is happening even if we clone the project it would still regenerate the Component IDs to our current Comp ID setting. That shouldn't be the case or there should be a setting to not regenerate when cloning or inserting drawing pages.

Or when we lock the inserted drawing items, it also locks the Comp ID. We have tried that and it does not lock the Comp ID from regenerating which I thought was off as well

This will likely only work on new projects since the component IDs must be unique. Nonetheless, it is a great idea. Seth - would you please consider this for v21? Thank you.
