Patch Panel Visio Shape
Jake Tomlinson
Would like to have a visio shape that acts as a patch panel on a separate sheet which would allow the wire from the device in the rack to pass through the patch panel and the SAME wire to continue to the remote device. Currently I am doing this with offpage references but is requiring the use of additional "wire" in dtools and two offpage reference per wire. Any connection data between the two devices is also lost once it gets connected to the patch panel. I have attached an image on how I am currently doing this.

Kevin Frye any word on getting this on the roadmap?

I actually think this needs quite a few elements to work properly. We currently use a very similar setup to your image, but additionally have in room outlets shown, so the schematic literally shows the physical arrangement and connections.
I actually want those separate cables to remain separate, as they are physically different cables in real life - you don’t have a single uninterrupted cable from the switch port all the way through to the device.
What would be incredibly useful and powerful would be a way to mark the patch panel and room outlets as ‘transition’ or ‘connection’ objects so that there is a way of running a report which shows which device in a room, is connected to which port on a switch for example.
We currently do this at the switch by using a cable labelling system which identifies what it is feeding, but it would be great to be able to run a report.

Or, the possibility of selecting any wire on the I/O and saying which patch panel and port it is connected to and be able to run reporting from that
