Cool to hear someone else interested.
I've spent WAY too much time on it to have only gotten where I am but most of it has been learning the Microsoft Dataverse schema and getting lost trying to understand what developers where thinking when designing it.
I'm working from D-Tools running on my local SQL Server and using a Microsoft Dataflow to pull products from DTools into D365 and it's working. There was a lot of nuance to get there though...some on Dataverse side, a little on D-Tools.
I went that route because I speak SQL as a second language and so it was way easier than getting started with REST and learning that. Ultimately REST will be the way to go because that is the only way to integrate with their hosted platform. I probably won't move to that UNTIL I can get that done.
I still plan to use D-Tools for quoting and product catalog management because it's far, Far, FAR superior at that. Any new product I sell, I add to D-Tools first then run the Dataflow to get it into D365.
There was some nuance to overcome and have a lot more I need to get done but at the very least have Products working. I started on getting Quotes moved so that when a quote is approved I can click a button (to run the Dataflow) and move that into an Opportunity in D365 and then into a Work Order.
I've run into a couple issues with that and D-Tools wont help me since I'm not going through REST and I put that to rest (pun intended) a few months ago and haven't gotten back to it yet.
My email is corbin@homesynthesis.com if you wish to discuss further.

Corbin Hambrick I discovered your post here. Any desire to share your experiences how SI and D365 can work together?

I agree.
Of course 2-way integration would be the best but we're working on one-way right now.
We started with Products and then quotes. So we can still do everything for quoting and the product catalog and pricing updates in D-Tools, but when a project is accepted we can move the quote to D365 and use it from there.
We will strictly enforce no product changes in D365 for now so we don't have to spend any development time getting changes back to D-Tools.
